Champs Guthrie is a very handsome Brown Silver Dilute AQHA Quarter Horse stallion that isn't just color.  He's the whole package! He has wonderful conformation, correct gaits and a fantastic temperament!

Guthrie's conformation is rectangular in shape, has a beautiful top-line, excellent neck-set, deep heart-girth, sloping shoulder with great withers, strong loin connection, dry joints and straight legs. His gaits are well-balanced, have good reach, are ground covering and are smooth as silk.

Guthrie is an absolute character too!  He loves being part of the family and likes to be in the middle of things.  He tries to help out by brushing us when we are brushing him.  He will grab the manure fork to clean his own stall and pasture with us.  And ... he loves to make music with the hose in the water bucket. :)

He is very smart, personable and enjoys being trained.  He picks new tasks up quickly and retains them.

The bonus is that Champs Guthrie carries a very unique and rare dilution gene.  The gene is called 'silver' or the 'Z' gene.  This gene only dilutes black pigment to various shades of brown that can range anywhere from chocolate color to pewter depending on whether the horse is bay or black.  Manes can be self-colored like the body color to beautiful blonde-white colors.  Chestnut or sorrel based horses can carry the gene and pass it on but it does not show since the silver gene only dilutes black pigment. It is essentially hidden on a red based horse.

Interesting Note:
Silver dapple seems to appear darker on American Quarter Horses
than on some other breeds like Rocky Mountain Horses or ponies.

Progeny

2008 was Champs Guthrie's first foal crop.  He had 8 foals. We are delighted with ALL of them.  Guthrie shows consistency in his foals. All of his foals display beautiful necks, deep, sloping shoulders, wonderful hip angles and straight legs.  They are level-headed, smart and easy to train.  All are very personable and are wowing people who see and meet them.

He was purposely bred to a spectrum of mares so we could see what he would pass on.  The mares bred were Thoroughbreds, Appendix, Appaloosa/Arab, Oldenburg/TB, Mustang and a Percheron/QH. Below are what some owners, vets, friends, trainers and judges have said about some of Guthrie's foals,

Rosemari MVF  "... I get compliments all the time",
"all of Guthrie's foals have great legs",
"exquisite",
"I can't believe how correct she is",
"love the kind eye", and
"this foal is going to hard to beat"

To top it all off ...
Guthrie has 8 foals out of 10 that carry the silver gene.  That's 80% silver!!!
